Creating a Positive Space

The Ottawa Art Council’s 2SLGBTQIA+ workshops

Thank you for registering for the 2SLGBTQIA+ training with the International Day of Pink.

Training will take place :

  • Monday, May 31 (6 pm-7 pm) Link

  • and, Monday, June 7 (6 pm to 8 pm) Link

The goal of the training is to provide participants with an in-depth understanding of the diverse experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, and the active role we each play in creating solidarity.

As Nicole said: “It is about addressing the invisible ‘welcome’ and ‘keep-out’ signs that our actions and in-actions create“.

The first workshop will look at key terminology and the experiences behind those words. This includes identity and key languages around discrimination (ex. queer, trans, cissexism, discrimination, oppression, human rights).

The second workshop will look at queer and trans Canadian and international experiences (past and present). In examining key moments of the past, we will explore HOW changes have happened, WHY, and their IMPACTS. This workshop will also explore the 'what next', by discussing actions that other similar organizations have taken. This includes exploring both positive and negative examples of allyship, solidarity, and inclusion.
